Shutha.org is a free online resource developed by Africa Media Online in association with World Press Photo for professional photographers and for photographic training institutions in Africa and the Majority World. It aims to pro photographers to:
1. understand world markets for your work and know how to successfully access and sell to those markets
2. know how to relate professionally to buyers around the world so that they want to keep working with you
3. learn how to deliver photography and multimedia products to buyers at the right standard so they come back for more
4. build a long-term archive of your work that earns you more money over time
Created by author of the DAM Book, Peter Krogh, UK Imaging consultant, Graeme Cookson, Multimedia specialist and World Press Photo trainer DJ Clark as well as South Africans Dominique Le Roux of Moonshine Media and David and Rosanne Larsen of Africa Media Online, the resource is made available under a Creative Commons license and photographic training institutions as well as photographers can draw on the resource and even include it in their training programmes. David Larsen will introduce you to the resource and how it can be best put to use to train others or to benefit your own photographic career. The resource was launched at the World Press Photo Awards in Amsterdam, Holland, in May this year and it is developing and growing over time drawing on insights from leading practitioners, buyers and editors in the global photographic industry. Head of training and deputy director of World Press Photo, Martin Koets said "It is the best online photographic training resource I have ever seen."
